Full Aventon Aventure.2 Review

Aventon has released a number of upgrades in their latest Aventure.2 model. The improved range and accessories take this ebike to the next level, competing alongside some of the best cross-country e-bikes on the market.

Why Choose an Electric Cross-Country/Hybrid Bike?

The Aventon Aventure.2 stands out among other e-bikes due to its 4” wide tires, front suspension with 80 mm travel, and powerful motor with up to 60 miles of range. You can go far behind the bike path with it. In fact, you can go on all-day adventures aboard the aptly-named Aventure.2, which features a massive 400-lb payload capacity.

The new model also features new and improved accessories such as integrated lights, a torque sensor, and turn signal functionality. These features increase comfort and safety whether you’re on the road or on the MTB trail.

Aluminum Frameset and 400-lb Payload Capacity

Aventon Aventure.2 is built with a 6061 Single-Butted Aluminum Alloy frame with an internal battery. This is a mid-range frame that is strong and sturdy, perfect for tackling all sorts of terrain. It comes in two variations—step-over and step-through—so it will suit different types of riders.

The Aventon Aventure.2’s weight is 77 lb, which is what you would expect from a fat tire e-bike with a powerful motor and 60-mile range. However, the weight could be a big deterrence for riders who need to carry or transport their bike. The Aventure.2 step thru ebike’s weight won’t be a problem while riding, however, thanks to the 48V motor, but it can be challenging to carry up a flight of stairs.

The aluminum frame is strong enough to hold up to 400 lbs in payload capacity, one of the best ratings for a cross-country/hybrid e-bike.

It comes in two different sizes that fit most adults. Here is the complete Aventon Aventure.2 size chart:

Step-Over:

  • Regular: 5’3″ – 5’10”
  • Large: 5’10” – 6’4″

Step-Through:

  • Regular: 4’11” – 5’7″
  • Large: 5’7″ – 6’1″

Electronics

The Aventon Aventure.2’s 750W (peak 1130W) motor is on the high-end for e-bikes at this price point. With its 48V brushless rear hub motor, the bike has a top speed of 20 mph out of the box, part of what makes it a Class 2 e-bike. Out of the box, the bike comes with pedal assist and throttle.

However, the Aventure.2 can be unlocked to a Class 3 e-bike with a top speed of 28 mph. You can also remove the throttle if you are riding in an area where throttles are prohibited.

Aventon Aventure.2’s battery is a removable lithium-ion 720Wh/48V battery that offers an impressive range of up to 60 miles.

The new version achieves a 15-mile higher range than the previous version, mostly thanks to the torque sensor that replaces the first-generation Aventure’s cadence sensor.

Components and Accessories

The Aventon Aventure.2 comes with a solid drivetrain that includes an 8-speed rear derailleur and 12-32T gearing. You can shift through the eight speeds with the 8-speed trigger shift lever, where you’ll also find levers for the powerful hydraulic disc brakes.

It also has a suspension fork with 80 mm travel, which is another feature that makes this bike more than capable of handling off-road terrain. 26″ x 4″ Puncture Resistant tires add to the off-roading ability of the bike.

Aventon has included a number of accessories with the new Aventure.2, including pre-installed fenders to help keep you protected on all sorts of terrain. A rear rack is also included, plus an integrated front headlight which helps keep you safe on or off the road.

One of the best accessories on this ebike is the rear brake lights, which illuminate when you pull on the brake lever. The rear lights also have a new turn signal functionality which allows you to alert those behind you when you are about to turn.

Radrover 6 Plus vs Aventon Aventure.2

Radrover 6 Plus and Aventon Aventure.2 are very similar e-bikes but have a few sharp differences. Radrover 6 Plus only has a 275 lb payload capacity compared to the Aventure.2’s 400 lb capacity. The Radrover 6 Plus has a 7-speed drivetrain, whereas the Aventure.2 features an 8-speed setup.

In addition, Radrover 6 Plus has a lower range than the Aventure.2 at 25-45 miles on a single charge compared to the Aventure.2’s 60-mile maximum range. When it comes to the suspension, the Aventure.2 only has 60 mm travel compared to the Aventure.2’s 80mm of travel.

Who Is Aventon Aventure.2 Best Suited For?

Aventon Aventure.2 is designed for beginner to advanced e-bike riders. The 4” tires, hydraulic disc brakes, and 80 mm travel make it comfortable and stable for beginner-level riders.

Those same features make the Aventon Aventure.2 ideal for adventure riding on dirt roads, light MTB trails, and plenty of gravel. Intermediate and experienced riders can use its full range of capabilities, including wide tires, front fork suspension, and powerful motor.
